A man dies in a hotel in Ogun state after sex with ex-wife

Real estate agent dies in a hotel in Ogun state after sex with ex-wife

A real estate agent, 50-year-old Diran Elijah, has lost his life after having sex with his former wife identified simply as Idowu, at a hotel in the Agbado area of Ogun State.

Punch reports that Idowu, who has remarried with two children for her new husband, reportedly separated from Elijah about four years ago. The ex-couple reignited their love affair lately when Elijah contacted her on the phone and they agreed to meet at the hotel around 10pm last Sunday, January 23.

Elijah was reportedly taking some rest after a pleasant time in bed with Idowu when he suddenly became unconscious and gasped for breath. The woman was said to have raised the alarm but it was too late as he reportedly gave up the ghost at the hotel.

An eyewitness said

“The owner of the hotel initially wanted to lie that the man slumped outside and died. But the woman (Idowu) confessed that they had sex and afterwards, the man complained that he was tired and wanted to rest. After some minutes, he went unconscious. She called for help but the man couldn’t make it. I later learnt that they were once married to each other but lost contact after going their separate ways. They recently got talking again.”

A source close to the woman said she (Idowu) had obtained a loan from a microfinance bank and was having difficulty repaying it. She said Elijah invited her to the hotel and promised to help repay part of the loan.

“They were ex-lovers. They had two children together as a couple but the kids died. They later divorced and remarried respectively. She obtained a loan from a microfinance bank and could not repay it. The bank sealed a house where she resides with her current husband in Ifo and she was sleeping in a church.

Elijah contacted her and promised to give her money to repay part of the loan. He died after they had sex. The police arrested her but the man’s family said they were not interested in pursuing any case against her.”the source said

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Ogun state police command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident, noting the two families had resolved to settle the matter amicably.

A Pittsburgh bridge collapsed on Friday morning January 28, sending multiple vehicles and a public bus plummeting into a park below, officials said.

According to CBS Pittsburgh, ten people suffered minor injuries and four people were taken to area hospitals, but none of the injuries were life-threatening.

"This could have been much worse," Pennsylvania Lieutenant Governor John Fetterman told CBS Pittsburgh at the collapse site. Fetterman noted a winter storm delayed the start of schools and kept people off the roads.

Images from the scene showed vehicles piled up amid the rubble. Gas lines running along the bridge ruptured, causing a large leak, and crews shut off the lines, officials said in a statement.

Five vehicles and an Allegheny County Port Authority bus were on the overpass when it collapsed into Frick Park below at around 6:40 a.m., officials said in the statement. Crews were searching the area to see if anyone may have been in the park when the collapse happened.

The bridge was last inspected in September, Mayor Ed Gainey told reporters. Fire Chief Darryl Jones said authorities were investigating what caused the collapse, which happened hours before President Biden was scheduled to visit the area to speak about infrastructure and other topics.

"With him coming today to talk about this infrastructure bill, to discuss why this funding is so important, today is significant," Gainey told reporters."… At the end of the day, we could have had some serious injuries."

Police, firefighters, and emergency medical service teams responded to the collapse, and the Red Cross has been contacted to help victims, safety officials said.

Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf tweeted he is monitoring the situation and also advised residents to avoid the area.

Three-match Champions League ban received Manchester City’s Kyle Walker

Manchester City

Manchester City defender,  Kyle Walker has been slapped with a three-match Champions League ban for 'assault'  ahead of the knockout stages.

The right-back saw red for petulantly kicking out at RB Leipzig striker Andre Silva late on during City's 2-1 dead-rubber defeat in Germany at the start of December.

Manchester City

UEFA's disciplinary board met on Tuesday and handed Walker a suspension that takes in both of the last-16 legs against Sporting Lisbon.

Walker was handed an automatic one-game ban but each disciplinary case is assessed by UEFA, with his punishment increased for what regulations state as 'assault'.

City head to Lisbon on February 15 as they restart their attempt to go one better than last season, when a first Champions League final ended in defeat by Chelsea.

Pep Guardiola branded the Walker's sending off as 'unnecessary' and added that he hoped the defender 'learns' from the indiscretion.

'My red card against Leipzig was very bad judgment and a stupid error that a 31-year-old shouldn't be making with the amount of games that I've played,' Walker said last week.

'I'm human, I make mistakes and I'm learning from that and will bounce back. Hopefully my performances between now and the end of the season can justify that and I'm picking up some silverware.'

The England international's absence leaves Joao Cancelo and Oleksandr Zinchenko as City's likely fullbacks for the European ties.

Baba Ijesha opens defence in alleged sexual assault trial

Baba Ijesha drops no-case submission and opens defence in alleged sexual assault trial

The Lagos State Special Offences Court has fixed February 17 for embattled Nollywood actor, Olanrewaju Omiyinka, aka Baba Ijesha, to open his defence in the alleged child molestation case against him.

Baba Ijesha was dragged before the court for allegedly defiling the foster daughter of comedian, Princess. He is facing a six-count charge bordering on the indecent treatment of a child, sexual assault, attempted sexual assault by penetration and sexual assault by penetration. The offences, according to the police, contravene sections 135, 259, 262, 263 and 262 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

During the hearing of the case on Wednesday, January 26, Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo fixed the date for the actor to open his defence after his counsel, O. Alo, notified the court that the senior defence counsel, Dada Awosika (SAN), was indisposed and urged the court for a short adjournment date. At the Wednesday proceedings, Alo told the court that the defendant had decided to enter into defence and would no longer be filing a no-case submission.

“We did not file a no-case submission again. In view of the development, we pray the court to give us a date. Both senior lawyers representing the defendant are not in court, although Babatunde Ogala had informed Mr Awosika that he would not be in court today. Mr Awosika is indisposed; he didn’t know that he would not be able to be in court. We apologise, my Lord.”Alo said

The prosecution counsel, Jide Martins, objected to the adjournment and urged Alo to continue with the matter.

However, Justice Taiwo, who held that the lawyers had always attended proceedings, granted the request of the defence. She noted that if the senior lawyers were not in court on the next adjourned date, Alo would continue with the matter.

Justice Taiwo thereafter adjourned the matter till February 17 and 18, 2022, for defence.

The suspects who have been paraded by the Commandant of NSCDC in the state, Emmanuel Ocheja, have been identified as Adeyeye Emmauel, Nasiru Adamu and Isa Mohammed at the Corps headquarters in Osogbo.

The three suspects were arrested at Ibodi junction, Ilesa, with 19 jerricans of 25 liters of adulterated fuel. The suspects however denied the allegation.

'Before any other zone goes for a second turn, Igbo should at least have their first turn' - Ohanaeze Ndigbo

Igbo Socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo has declared that the Igbo tribe is fully prepared to ensure that one of them emerges president of Nigeria in 2023.

President General of the group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Prof. George Obiozor, while urging President Muhammadu Buhari to continue his policy of national healing and reconciliation to the end said the South South and South West had produced presidents and vice presidents since 1999 with the Igbo left out.

According to Obiozor, during these periods the Igbo had totally supported the presidential aspirations of other Southern regions represented by Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, respectively but that in the spirit of equity, justice and fairness, the presidential tickets of all political parties should be zoned to the South East, while the South West and South South should support the South East zone.

His statement read;

“Let it be known and clearly understood that Ndigbo are more prepared than the north when President Buhari was elected in 2015. By then Boko Haram had threatened to overrun the north and the country, and the nation’s priority then was security and the issue of who will guarantee security to the country favoured Buhari, a former Head of State, a General e.t.c. The only preparation in the north was having available a man like Buhari presumed to have the capacity to confront the security challenges in the North and the rest of the country.

“In the South West, how prepared were they in 1999 when President Obasanjo was elected? In fact, many people from the South West did not vote for him in that election. The people of the South West zone were deep in the crises of NADECO and displeasure over the June 12, 1993 election annulment. Here, notwithstanding, the Nigerian nation and the people through the two main national political parties zoned the Presidency to the South West in order to heal and reconcile the nation over the post 1993 election crisis.

“Today, if the truth must be told, the imperative of zoning the presidency to the South East is an idea whose time has come. Certainly, Ndigbo are prepared and look forward to it as a national priority. It is also indeed reasonable and logical that before any other zone in the country goes for a second turn of occupying the office of the presidency that Ndigbo should at least have their first turn.”

Alcohol production in sachet and PET bottles bans by NAFDAC

NAFDAC bans alcohol production in sachet and PET bottles

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has announced that it has stopped the registration of alcohol in sachet, small volume PET and glass bottles below 200 millilitres.

This was disclosed in a statement released by the agency on behalf of its Director-General of the agency, Prof. Mojisola  Adeyeye, on Monday January 24.

Adeyeye said the decision to ban registration of new alcoholic drinks in sachet and small volume PET and glass bottles above 30 per cent Alcohol by Volume (ABV), was taken in line with recommendation of a high powered committee of the Federal Ministry of Health,  NAFDAC and Federal Competition, Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) and Industry, Association of Food, Beverages and Tobacco Employers (AFBTE), and Distillers and Blenders Association of Nigeria (DIBAN) in December 2018.

Manufacturers of low volume alcohol beverages (200ml) with satisfactory laboratory reports already submitted to NAFDAC for registration before the decision, have been directed to reformulate their products to stipulated standards free of charge.

Adeyeye added that the agency will ensure that the validity of renewal of already registered alcoholic products in the affected category does not exceed the year 2024.

The statement read;

“Distillers and Blenders Association of Nigeria was also given a matching order to embark on intensive nation-wide sensitization campaigns against underage consumption of alcohol by adolescents below the age of 18 years in the bid to stem the tide of alcohol abuse in the country.

“Producers of alcohol in sachets and small volume agreed to reduce production by 50 per cent with effect from January 31st, 2022 while ensuring the products are completely phased out in the country by 31st January 2024.

” The agency is committed to the strict implementation of the regulations and regulatory measures towards safeguarding the health of Nigerians particularly the vulnerable youths against the dangers of reckless consumption of alcohol.”
